The Good, the Bad and the UglyThe Good:Location- Legends of Virginia Center Apartments are located just north of Richmond where I95, I64 and I295 meet. There are many places to shop and eat within minutes. It is a great location to travel to Fredericksburg/D.C. or to anywhere in the Richmond/Tri-Cities areas.Application and rental process- This went fairly smoothly for me. The staff was very responsive and helpful during my move.The neighborhood itself is fairly quiet besides the occasional load vehicle.The Bad & The Ugly:The first thing that I noticed was the lack of lighting in the apartment. There are no lights in the master bedroom, 2nd bedroom or the living room area. The lights were probably there once upon a time because the wiring and light switches are present. The light fixtures were removed and covered with a plate. The lack of lighting makes the apartment less desirable and adds to the cost of living for residents who have to go buy lamps to provide adequate lighting.I didnt notice the windows until another resident pointed it out to me. The windows are very low quality. I can feel a cold breeze coming through all of the windows because they are not sealed properly. The resident was told by the staff that it is the residents responsibility to cover/treat the windows. This is also another thing that will increase the cost of living for residents because these units are not very energy efficient which increases heating/cooling costs.These windows also have a great deal of condensation buildup on the inside. This condensation freezes on the inside of the windows on cold days and drips down to the window sills causing water damage to the paint, wood and drywall.Most of the surfaces in my apartment show signs of heavy wear and tear. In my opinion, this points to the owners/maintenance philosophy of only repairing the bare minimum to make the unit livable.I also believe that the construction quality of these apartments is very low not just because of the windows but, outside walls may be lacking the proper insulation. On cold days the outside walls are very cold. Not to mention the amount of sound that resonates through the floors.Lastly, the mailboxes that are centrally located are in a serious need of repair. My concern with this is that it looks like the majority of the large package boxes have been broken into and this may reduce the Post Offices ability to deliver oversized packages in a secure way. When I asked about this shortly after moving in, I was told that they were going to be repaired. I have been here almost 3 months and no repairs have been made. more ...
